#5, well, it isn't funny. I don't really think a pun was intended. I think the box is just representing an orange box full of valve games, 's essence innit?
As for my opinion, I actually really like the orange on white look. Clean and crisp. I have seen similar designs on the site before, but still, good job.

Im not laughing either, but I assumed this was a pun because the game is called "The Orange Box" and the front cover is just an... orange box? No reference to Half-Life, Portal or any of the other games. Surely any box that takes the game title LITERALLY is classed as humour e.g. The Darkness or Animal Crossing.

But still, I know it's an essence box and all but even if I saw this cover in a shop, I wouldn't automatically think "omgz wow Half-Life, Portal and TF all on one disc!!"... instead I would think "ha, someone's trying to be funny..."
In fact, what is this box actually trying to acheive? It doesn't show me anything about the game. There is no reference to anything other than an orange box. But the orange box is irrelevant because the actual game is called THE ORANGE BOX so it's sorta patronizing that there needs to be an orange box on the front cover, in case gamers are too dumb to know what an orange box looks like.
I'm sure the artist meant this as a humour box.

#11, First of all, I've never, ever, ever designed a box thinking of how Consumer #12 would see it in stores. All the designs I make I make for my own personal use. Second, it's not an essence box, it's my own template. Third, the symbols for Half Life 2, Portal, and Team Fortress 2 are on the back, as well as descriptions of the games.
It's not a humor box. It's more of taking a humor concept and designing a sleek, more respectable box around it.
I'm neither trying to be funny, nor trying to insult gamer intelligence. It's more of an inside joke, if anything. If you know about The Orange Box, you would see this and know what it is instantly. If you weren't in the know, you could always read the back.

All of this hubbub is why I don't like this template lol.
But I sort of agree with Cerium but not to the same extent. Maybe if you put the symbols above the box on the front it would work better, the same colour as on the back if not lighter. Just some indication of what the game is.

#15, The template is based on the Essence template now (which is based on the GAF Collection template which is based on the Criterion Template), but, if I'm bored, I can always change it.
I thought someone would've mentioned that idea in the WIP thread, but no one did, so I kept it as it is.
