Finished this earlier today. Its funny how things work out. I actually started this out as the First Resident Evil game, then I changed it to Zero, then decided it should be Outbreak and finally decided to change it to Umbrella Chronicles. Put at least 12 hours into this, counting the rendering.

Very very nice, a unique design, but it fits perfectly.

You never fail to impress. The character layout on the front is exceptionally great, and I like the dark feel and colors you used in this.

Front composition is quality work, one of your better designs. I like this for the most part, though the Nintendo logo looks a little large, and the tagline annoys me. Why are only specific letters lowercase?

I like the overall design and the colours are really nice but there is literally no need for the spine to be so wide, it really distracts me from what is essentially a brilliant piece of work.

What made you not want to use actual templates anymore?

#10, I find the thick spine more attractive. It just looks better for me.
#11, With this temp I get more room for the artwork. Just gives me more breathing room.

I have no problem with the template on this one.
The hole box is great, and i love the thick black border, which gives a great feel to the box.

The box is good otherwise, I noticed the box with dolby digital and criware looks rather empty.

#14, Yea. Well the bottom info on the back is from the official game box.

Errr... I am not posting the usual "oh another resident evil one" or "the template is... special" comment. Okay, I just can't resist...

@ #12: You know my point of view about this one: The real art behind such stuff is working with the preset stuff. If you have to edit the template to make it look good, you are a rather bad "box artist". Again: This one looks very good, but try to get more to the official stuff.

just some stuff I'd change:
- add some more space (black space) on the bottom of the wii-logo on the front, to make the space look somewhat similar to the one at the nintendo-logo next to it

- move teh resident evil logo on the front a bit up - it's too close on the bottom

- invert the rating on the back. nothing wrong with the texture, but if you invert it it looks more official IMO.

OH and the logos on your spine always look kinda distorted. That's okay, but they should get thin, not wide on this perspective.

Awesome work on the front, reminds me of that MGS4 wallpaper used in DMS' box. Back layout is pretty generic, but I still would have like to see the tagline rotated to the same angle of the screens/body text.

#16, Yea I know what you mean. I just like doing my own thing with the template you know? I just hate working with the official one. Its pretty bad, especially with the Wii bar logo blocking part of the box on the front.

Ringbearer font if I'm not mistaken?

Great font for use with these types of boxes, I've used it many times and it works for most designs.

As for the template, I like these un-official yet official looking templates, they both give the designer more room to work and it gives it more of a custom feel.

Nice work as always here.

Pretty much what wasa-bi said

An all around decent cover adapted onto a pretty much a terrible template.

I guess you could just look at it as just a special edition box that holds the game and everything else that comes with it. looks better when you think of it that way.

#24, Which makes the cover useless, a printable with dimensions that fit nothing.

If I wanted to truly print this out I would have to edit it in Photoshop first.

Actually it does fit a PC temp. I have a couple of those temps at my house. I dont care if you dont like my temp. Hawt or Sentroavium. Edit it if you want to print it. It would take like 2 seconds to edit it.

Oh and why are you two saying the temp is terrible all of a sudden? Ive been using it for like a year now.

#27, #28, the average non-designer consumer doesn't use Photoshop, and once they realize they have to edit an image just to print it out to fit their box, they're going to be turned off by it, not everyone is going to go to deeper lengths to put this cover into Wii cover dimensions. Wii boxes are not PC boxes, they aren't the same size, and I don't find it realistic to go buy 10 empty fat PC boxes just so your templates can fit on them.

Which is why I don't like your templates, plain and simple, they don't work. Now for a PC box, they're perfect, they fit them just fine. I like your covers a lot jevangod, know that, however your reasoning behind providing a printable that pretty much can't be used by anyone except you unless the person went through a long editing process seems odd.

#29, Well instead of people complaining about my templates. Why not just ask me to make the printables the same size as the actual Wii temp? You dont have to have photoshop to edit it. Something as simple as Paint can edit it to make it fit the average Wii temp.

#31, The only problem there would be the spine.

[ Reply ]

avatar
jevangod 50 [ 9 years ago ]

#32, Yes. The spine is simple to edit. Especially since the background is all black.

#19, and this will stop you from getting a real boxartist. even though you hate it, you still can make it look pretty good with such stuff.

#34, Yea I know. I can work with the officials. I just perfer this one. Eventually I will come across a box where I will use the official. But for now Im just going to use this template.
